To have a “Nuit Blanche” means to “Have a Sleepless Night”. The first Nuit Blanche took place in Paris France in 2002. The event started at 6pm and went until 6 in the morning. It featured all sorts of different artistic projects, and brought many tourists and visitors to Paris. Since that time Nuit Blanche events have spread across the world, and now take place in over 100 cities including Paris, Rome, Madrid, and Toronto. These events attract millions of visitors and dollars for their host municipalities, and have become a cultural phenomenon.
Nuit Blanche North is a free late-night art event where cutting-edge artists light up downtown Huntsville with radical art exhibits and eccentric performances.
Inspired by the Nuit Blanche event started in Paris France in 2002, we invite visitors to stay up late and experience truly unique works of art in public spaces. The fun begins at sunset and continues into the wee hours of the morning. Visitors can wander through the streets of Huntsville to discover surprising works of art in unexpected places. From street theatre, to music, to sculpture, to film, and interactive exhibits, there is something for everyone, and many ways to join in the fun. Come explore, discover, debate, create and participate. No experience necessary, just a desire to stay up late and play!
Nuit Blanche North is presented in partnership by the Huntsville Festival of the Arts andEdge of the Woods Theatre. The goal of the event is to present fun, engaging and accessible works of art, and to support the local economy by bringing visitors downtown, and providing opportunities for local artists to create and present their work.
